Self-care isn’t a luxury, it isn’t selfish, it is a necessity and an act of self-love for everyone – especially mediums. Mediums are used to helping others but often forget about themselves and their needs.
We all brush our teeth every day as part of our daily hygiene, but mediums also need to incorporate a daily mediumship hygiene routine into their lives. This is particularly important after emotionally charged or overwhelming readings.
Although feeling is a natural part of mediumship, it is our duty to process these emotions, let go of physical sensations in the body, and move on from the reading.
There are 15 types of self-care tips all mediums must follow, these are tuning into your body, meditating daily, creating healing work boundaries, making time to process emotions or feelings after each reading, grounding their energy, prioritizing self-healing, exercising, scheduling alone time and create a healing workspace.
1. Tune into your body every day
Upon waking up, tune into your body and see how it feels. What is it telling you? Are you feeling energized, tired, stressed, anxious, relaxed, or numb? Listen to what your body is telling you and take steps to bring it into balance. Ask your body what it needs. It might need time outdoors in the sunshine, some light exercise, or a nutritious meal.
2. Meditate for at least 10 minutes a day
Meditation is a wonderful grounding technique but it can also help us emotionally detox. By moving our awareness within we can connect to our subtle energy body and become aware of lingering or repressed emotions. Dedicating as little as 10 minutes a day to meditation can help us find emotional balance and recharge our energy field too.
3. Establish healthy boundaries at work
One of the biggest concerns faced by mediums is that they struggle to find work-life balance. They may find themselves working at all hours of the day which may lead to burnout, compassionate fatigue, or spiritual bypassing.
This is especially true for mediums working from home, which is why it is important to set your working hours. Then treat this as any other job and stick to your work schedule.
4. Take time to process after a reading
Give yourself time between mediumship readings to reflect acknowledge and process your feelings. Create a safe space to honor these feelings and use techniques and strategies that help you process your emotions and promote healing.
You could witness the experience, scream into a pillow, dance through the feelings, try tapping, do some gentle stretches, start journalling, or join a laughing yoga class.
5. Be proactive about your healing process
Mediums need to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to self-care. We need to assess how we are feeling physically, emotionally, and mentally to avoid burning out.
This means being proactive, anticipating our triggers, and recognizing the signs of physical, emotional, and psychic burnout. This allows you to quickly adapt to the situation and avoid feeling exhausted, dealing with mental fog, struggling to get to sleep, and having difficulty communicating with spirit.
6. Ground your energy everyday
Mediums need to ground their energy, without exception. This work requires us to shift our awareness into the spirit world and that can make us feel ungrounded.
Common signs that you are ungrounded include falling asleep during meditation, feeling nervous or anxious, struggling to focus, feeling drained, or feeling overly emotional.
If you are experiencing one or more of these signs, you must ground your energy everyday. You can take walks in nature, join yoga class, take a cold bath, breathe in fresh air, or walk barefoot in nature. For more grounding ideas, read my other blog post called 35 grounding tips for mediums.
7. Be flexible and adapt to your daily needs
Be flexible with your time and adapt to your needs. It doesn’t matter how much you intend to accomplish or finish by the end of the day, we aren’t machines. Recognize everything that you did achieve, whether it was a small or big accomplishment. Success isn’t about sacrificing your well-being to achieve a desired outcome, it is simply about doing the best you could on that day.
Being rigid and putting yourself down for not having achieved a goal or objective will only keep you vibrating at a lower energy. If you are having a bad day, recognize and accept it, and schedule some downtime. Simple!
8. Keep healthy snacks in the house
Working as a medium uses up our energy which can leave us feeling peckish after each reading. Although you may wish to reach out for a biscuit, a piece of cake, or your favorite ice cream, I highly recommend against it. It will make you feel better in the moment but within 30 minutes you will feel your energy crash.
Instead, snack on healthy alternatives, such as bananas, grapes, a bowl of blueberries, some guacamole, a boiled egg, or any other healthy snack of your choice. It will help you feel satisfied, keep your energy levels going for longer, and avoid gaining those extra pounds. Trust me, I know!
9. Schedule time alone everyday
Spending at least 30 minutes alone every day is a must for all mediums. It allows you to completely focus on yourself and replenish your energy.
You could use this time to go for a walk in nature, jump into the sea for a quick swim, watch the sunrise or sunset, or enjoy a relaxing bath. Alone time is nonnegotiable, so honor it and enjoy every minute of it.
10. Create a Healing Space at home
Create a sacred space at home using crystals, incense, essential oils, and plants or flowers to create a healing and relaxing environment at home. This can help you charge up the room and help you restore balance after every reading.
If you are extra sensitive or consider yourself an empathic medium, also consider ways in which you can reduce radiation and EMF exposure at home. I love wearing the Q-Link SRT-3 pendant and the Q-Link SRT-3 Nimbus.
11. Exercise for at least 2 hours a week
Exercise is essential for our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. All mediums must have a healthy exercise routine as part of their self-care routine. Commit to exercising at least twice a week for an hour and watch your mediumship transform.
You will feel more balanced, less emotional, and physically charged during readings. Start off with gentle exercise and gradually build up to more strenuous activity. You may pick a gentle yoga class, pilates, or qi-gong and then move on to more challenging forms of exercise such as reformer pilates, cardio, strength training, circuit training, spin classes, or high-intensity interval training. Start off where you are at right now and respect your body’s current limitations.
12. Surround yourself with high vibe people
As mediums, we know when a person is vibrating at a high or low frequency. To prioritise your well-being you need to surround yourself with high-vibing people. Avoid or limit time spent with energy vampires, complainers, or those who don’t vibrate at your energy field.
It is important to surround yourself with people who resonate with your energy field and who uplift you. If you keep feeling tired, and emotionally exhausted after meeting up with a friend or family member, limit meeting them when your energy is depleted.
13. Take a warm or hot shower
Bathing or taking a shower is a wonderful way to reset your mind during the day. I love taking showers after intense readings or when I feel that my mind is racing. But it can also work wonder if you are feeling anxious or stressed for whatever reason.
A warm shower boosts circulation in the body, relieves tension in the muscles, and loosens the joints and tissues. It is a great alternative to getting a massage and can easily fit into your busy schedule.
14. Seek Professional help
Understand that being a medium is an emotionally taxing job and that we cannot ignore our needs. Whether you are going through are experiencing personal problems or are having difficulty dealing with emotional overwhelm in your mediumship, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes speaking to our friends and family isn’t enough.
We may need to join a support group or seek out some form of therapy. If you are struggling with something in your life, get some help. It is a form of self-love and self-care. Look for a local support group in your community or look for a counselor or psychologist that can help you overcome your current challenges. Acknowledge your healing needs and take steps to maintain your emotional well-being.
15. Create a bedtime routine to improve sleep
Many psychic mediums love going to bed late because they enjoy the silence and sense of calm that arises at night. But this negatively disrupts our circadian rhythm and affects the quality of our sleep.
Maintaining a regular sleep schedule can improve mental condition, reduce stress and anxiety, prevent exhaustion, and is one of the easiest ways to prevent burnout.
Final Thoughts
Self-care is a form of self-love towards ourselves that every medium must include as part of their daily routine. Self-care isn’t a luxury, it is essential for all mediums. Due to the nature of our jobs, we need to clear our energy field and raise vibration. This is necessary if we want to receive clear and concise messages from spirit.
