3. Palmistry

Palmistry is also known as chiromancy and is the art of palm reading to predict the future and understand the past. It consists of reading a person’s hand by studying the shape, size, and color of the palms, assessing the health and shape of the nails and thumbs and also reading the lines on the inside of the palm.

The palm can reveal insights about a person’s character, things we will excel at and warnings of possible future events. Palm readings can help us find our purpose, understand past events, prepare us for obstacles ahead and assist us with decision-making.

If you are a complete beginner, have a read of A Little Bit of Palmistry: An Introduction to Palm Reading‘. If you are looking for something more comprehensive then have a read of ‘The Secret Code on Your Hands: An Illustrated Guide to Palmistry‘.

4. Numerology

Numerology is a divination system which dates back to ancient Egypt, Babylon, Rome and China. The underlying principle behind numerology is that everything in the universe has a unique frequency, including numbers. So numerology is the study and interpretation of number frequencies and their effect on our lives.

So, numerology can help us understand the past, the present and foretell future possibilities. A numerology reading involves deciphering the meaning of birth dates and the numerological equivalent of our names. These are used to understand our life’s purpose, our expression, personality, external influences, challenges and how to overcome them.

This is probably the easiest divination tool to master and you can get started right away. However, if you want to learn more about numerology and discover topics such as karmic debt and how to overcome challenges you may be interested in reading ‘The Ultimate Numerology Book: The Complete Guide to the Spiritual Meaning of Numbers including How Your Birthday and Name Affect Your Life Path’

5. Dowsing

Dowsing is a divination tool that dates back to the 15th century in ancient Egypt. Pendulums were found in Egyptian tombs and dowsing rods are depicted in wall paintings.

Pendulums are said to connect to higher consciousness and bring through spiritual guidance, support decision-making, and provide answers to your question. Ancient Egyptian oracles primarily used a pendulum for divination purposes and to heal and rebalance our energetic bodies.

Handheld instruments also knowns as dowsing rods were commonly used to underground water sources, precious metals (gold and silver), sense the energy of a location and find lost objects or missing people.

Traditionally the objects consisted of a forked branch but we now have other variations which include Y rods or L rods.

If you want to practise the art of dowsing you will need to purchase either a pendulum or a dowsing rod and calibrate it to establish what constitutes as a ‘yes’ and what means ‘no’. The pendulum or rod attune to your energy and becomes more accurate over time. So it is best to avoid sharing pendulums or rods as this can distort their energy field.

If you want to develop this ability I highly recommend getting yourself a pendulum and reading ‘Hiring the Heavens by Jean Slater’

6. Rune Casting

Runes are an ancient divination tool said to reveal secrets or to uncover that which is hidden. According to the Vikings the runes were sacred gifts passed onto humans by Odin, the Norse God. They comprise of 24 small stones or tiles which have symbols or letters carved onto them.

Runes can be used for several purposes but are most commonly used to connect with higher consciousness and support individuals with their spiritual growth. The engravings on the stones symbolise different meanings about a person’s life in the present and the future.

Although runes are a fascinating psychic tool it is among the most difficult to master. But don’t let that stop you.

There are many books to help you get started. If this sounds like something you would like to try out I recommend getting a copy of Runes for Beginners: a guide to reading runes in divination and the meaning of Elder Futhark Runes.

7. Lithomancy

Lithomancy is thought to have originated in ancient Turkey and is the art of casting crystals. It is a divination tool used to foretell the future, clarify the present and understand the past.

It is usually comprised of 13 stones that represent love, fortune, life, home and seven astrological signs, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, the sun and the moon.

The crystals are held in the palm 2-4 inches above a silk cloth and then dropped whilst holding a question in mind. To interpret the meaning, consideration is given to the position of the crystals and their proximity to one another. Areas with multiple crystals are more important and the interpretation should go into more depth.

8. Scrying

Scrying is one of the oldest divination methods which consists of gazing into reflective surfaces such as crystals, mirrors, water, crystals, fire and smoke. It is used to access spiritual wisdom and receive insights in the form of visions, guidance or messages. This practice dates back to ancient Egypt, where an oil drop would be placed on a nail to form a reflective surface.

Full moon scrying is another common practice which uses a bowl of water to capture the reflection of the moon. By gazing into the bowl of water we can drift into a daydream state which raises our consciousness and brings through psychic insights.

Everyone should try scrying at some stage of their psychic development. It is particularly beneficial for individuals that find it difficult to concentrate or who have a monkey mind. Scrying will focus your attention and allow your intuitive insights to bubble up to the surface.

9. Tasseography

Tasseography (also known as Tasseomancy) is an ancient form of divination which originated across Asia, the Middle East and Ancient Greece in the 17th century. It is effectively the art of foretelling the future by reading patterns in tea leaves, coffee grounds and wine sediments.

Tasseographers peer into the cup or glass and look for images, symbols, shapes, astrological signs, planets or letters to communicate meaningful insights. Each symbol has its own meaning and can relate to any aspect of an individual’s life. Tasseography readings can forecast future events and also warn us of negative events in any area of our lives – health, love, travels, career and many more.

10. I Ching Coins

I Ching is an ancient Chinese divination method for casting hexagrams said to date back to the Tang Dynasty between 608 – 907AD.

This form of divination is used to receive wisdom and guidance in any area of a person’s life – health, love career, spiritual path, wealth and many more.

To create the hexagram you will need three Feng Shui coins (quarters also work just as well) or 49 yarrow sticks.

Coin method: Focus your attention on a particular question, toss the three coins (feng shui or quarters) , jot down if it is heads or tails and repeat the process six times. This will create the hexagram which can be used to interpret meaning.

For those of you wanting to try out the yarrow sticks version, I recommend watching the “I Ching Yarrow Stalk Tutorial on YouTube. It isn’t the most exciting video but it does a good job explaining how it is done. This method is very satisfying but is not as easy as simply tossing the coin.
