11 Ways To Honor Our pets In The Afterlife

Are you looking to memorialize or honor your pet family in spirit? Whether you have recently lost a member of your animal family, or you are looking to honor your deceased pet soul mate, there are many things you can do.

Just like us, our animals want to be remembered. Some may choose to visit us from the afterlife and others may want to reincarnate and find their way back to us as soon as possible.

So what can we do to honor our pets in spirit and let them know how much we love and miss them?

We can honor our animals by holding a memorial service, writing them letters, including them in our daily prayers, and visiting their favorite places. You could also host a remembrance dinner, purchase a memorial piece of jewelry, release lanterns, or light a candle.

1. Hold a Memorial Service

One of the best ways to honor your pet after their passing is to host a memorial service. It is a great way to come together as a family and say goodbye to our pets. You can host a pet memorial service almost anywhere, but I suggest picking a spot that holds meaning for them.

If you are planning to release their ashes on the same day, I recommend doing the ceremony outside and picking a spot that is slightly isolated and avoid a windy day.

2. Write Letters or poems for them

Saying goodbye is never easy! In their final moments, we are so concerned about their well-being that we may forget to tell them, how much we love them, and that they will be missed.

But we can share those memories with them even after they have transitioned. We can write them a letter, a poem, or record a video sharing our feelings and let them know how much we miss them. We can thank them for changing our lives for the better, and express how grateful we are that they chose to be a part of your life. Writing a letter not only lets our animals in heaven know we are thinking about them, but it can also be very healing for us.

3. Connect to them through Prayer & Meditation

Our animals can hear our thoughts, feel our emotions, listen to our prayers, and connect with us during meditation. All you need to do is find a quiet and peaceful place to pray or meditate. You can use these moments of stillness to communicate with them and train yourself to receive messages from the afterlife.

4. Visit their favourite places

Another wonderful way to honor our pets in spirit is to visit places that are special to them. That could be the local park, the woods, the beach, the pet shop, or the hair salon. Then take time to remember and rejoice in those beautiful moments you shared together. Although they are not physically there with you, they are in spirit.

5. Acknowledge signs from the afterlife

More often than not, pet parents receive signs from their animals in heaven. Some people receive signs almost immediately while others may need to wait weeks, months, or even years to connect with their animal.

Unfortunately, many people fail to notice or disregard the signs from their pets in spirit. They may try to boil it all down to coincidence or look for a logical explanation to discount these magical moment. Now, I am not saying to turn everything into a sign. I am simply saying keep your eyes peeled and your ears open to the magical world of spirit. Our animals will try to communicate with us, but if they can’t get through they may end up giving up.

6. Commission a piece of Art or Jewellery

Losing our furry friends is one of life’s greatest challenges and often times we need something physical to hold onto. Getting a piece of jewelry is a beautiful and tangible reminder of our pets in heaven.

We can find comfort and honor them each day with a beautiful piece of jewelry such as custom-made necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings, or cufflinks, just to name a few.

Other memorial pieces such as paintings and sculptures also make great additions to an altar, a display, or memorial space.

If you are looking for the perfect memorial piece of jewelry, I highly recommend Spirit pieces. They create beautiful pieces of glass art, memorial art and cremation jewellery at very reasonable prices.

7. Light a memorial Candle

Lighting a candle in memory of our pets in spirit is another great way of honoring their memory. You can light a candle as part of your daily ritual, during prayer, or as part of their memorial or annual remembrance day.

I recommend getting an LED Candle remembrance lantern that can be used for years to come. These come with a beautiful message inscribed on the outside and the LED flicking light looks real and can be left unattended.

8. Host a Remembrance Dinner for your pets

One of the best ways to remember your animals is to organize a remembrance dinner. You can invite friends and family to honor all their pets in spirit and talk about them. You can look back at family pictures and share loving memories shared with our animal family.

A memorial dinner can be emotional at times but it is also extremely healing and a wonderful way to honor our pets in heaven.

9. Release Memorial Balloons or Lanterns

If you like to make a fuss over your pets, you could try releasing balloons or paper lanterns on their birthdays or as part of their memorial remembrance. But you can make the experience even more special, write a personalised letter and attach it to the balloon.

Then watch the balloons or lanterns float away into heaven and simply absorb this magical experience.

10. Create a Memorial Space

Create a memorial space at home or in a special location for your deceased pets. You may choose to decorate it with their photos, their favorite toys and accessories, or any other items that represent the love you shared. You could also include your letters and poems, your memorial objects, candles, and lanterns to this sacred space.

11. Donate or Volunteer at an Animal Shelter

Another way to honor our animals is to give back unconditionally to other animals in need. We can volunteer or support a local animal shelter, animal rescue or non-for-profit organisation. This could be as simple as walking dogs for 30 minutes a week, volunteering as a pet bereavement counsellor or donating money to an animal charity.

And for those of you who are ready to open your hearts up to another furry friend, you could also try fostering or adopting a new pet. Our pets in heaven want us to be happy and often send pets our way to keep us company. But remember that there is no rush, take your time and honor your feelings making this commitment. You will intuitively know when its the right time to open your heart and home to a new pet.
